First Family Vacation
About a week ago we decided that we would spend the 4th of July holiday in Piedmont, Missouri where my parents own property near Clearwater Lake. So on Friday we packed up the car and started our journey during Mary Rene’s morning nap. She usually only naps an hour but she ended up sleeping for an hour and a half. When she woke up we stopped for some gas and decided to eat lunch at

If you look close you can see Frank and Mary Rene sitting at the table with some bikers. After lunch we drove up a quarter of a mile and got some fireworks. The fireworks were 80% off so Frank was able to get a bang for his buck. Ha! By this time, Mary Rene was ready for a diaper change and the only place to do it was

We journeyed along and when we finally arrived in the city limits of Piedmont we knew we had 10 more minutes to go up the windy road to my parent’s property. By this point Mary Rene couldn’t take the car ride anymore and started crying. We kept chugging along but then her cries turned into screams and she was starting to hypervilate. I guess that’s what sitting in a carseat for two and half hours will do to you! We finally got to the country road that leads to my parent’s property so I pulled on the road and jumped in the back seat with her. She calmed down and stopped shaking just as we arrived at my parent’s cabin/mobile/vacation home.
Last summer Frank and I didn’t get to come down since I was pregnant. But it seemed like we had just been there months ago. I instantly felt a sense of peace.
The three of us did some grocery shopping and then went out to dinner. By the time we were done with dinner, my sister and her finacee had made it down there. They decided to go to the drive-in theater and we stayed back so we could put Mary Rene to bed. Mary Rene was in bed by 9:30 p.m. and didn’t wake up until 4:30 a.m. to nurse. After nursing she went back to bed until 8 a.m. Frank and I originally discussed staying up and building a fire out front but we were both exhausted from the drive.
On Saturday we decided to celebrate Indpendence Day down at Clearwater Lake. Mary Rene was in heaven on the beach because she loves

her some sand. She played in the sand for a bit and then we headed into the lake. The water felt great and Mary Rene was having fun splashing around.

The lake wasn’t crowded so we had plenty of room to move around and swim. We swam for about an hour and then we ate lunch and left.
We went back to the cabin and everyone took naps but my sister’s fiancee and me. I just can’t nap anymore (my mind is always racing.) After napping we put Mary Rene in her 4th of July outfit and she decided to pay tribute to Michael Jackson and

do the triller dance. She was having so much fun dancing and playing with her yellow foam number 5.

We then went outside and Frank shot off some of his daytime fireworks. My sister’s dog was barking and trying to chase the fireworks which made Mary Rene cry so we didn’t stay outside long.

We decided not to attend the firework display in town and stayed in the cabin instead. The next morning we cleaned up the place and came back home. Overall, it was a great vacation and memorable way to celebrate Mary Rene’s 1st Independence Day.
