#78: Completed
There are many days that my mind is racing with so many thoughts that I can’t concentrate on the given task. When I am at home playing with Mary Rene, I get distracted by the piece of dust sitting two feet away. All I can think about is picking up that piece of dust! Oh I hate that. Or when Frank comes home and he is telling me about his day at work, my mind is focused on what is going on later that night. I have a hard time being in the present moment most of the time. But the worse part, I get so wrapped up in my day-to-day duties that I let my prayer life fall to the bottom.
Which is why I added #78 to my list. Today I finished reading, “A Mother’s Rule of Life,” by Holly Pierlot. Thank you for the suggestion Lerin! The goal of the book is to help you live out your vocation in a productive and peaceful manner. My three main vocations are to be a good wife to Frank, a loving mother to Mary Rene and a faithful steward to Christ. At the present moment, I fail at all three because my mind is a pinball machine.
Pierlot’s book points out that you need to get your priorities in line:
- Your personal relationship with Jesus Christ comes first, above all else.
- Taking care of yourself (staying sane!!!) is a crucial part to maintaining harmony
- Your vocation as a wife to your spouse
- Your vocation as a mother
- Your vocation as a provider (in my case I am part-time financial provider and part-time homemaker.)
I have a schedule laid out and I am going to start following it tomorrow morning. At this time I don’t want to share my schedule because I think I will be changing it a lot over the next few days. Actually I will probably be changing it a lot over the next few months as Mary Rene’s nap & bed time changes.
But here are some important highlights of my schedule.
Prayer Life:
- Monday through Friday: Frank and I will pray together at 7 a.m. (I am in the process of creating a “prayer room”)
- Every other Tuesday: attend Eucharist Adoration with Mary Rene.
- Once a month: Frank and I will both go to Confession.
- Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: Every afternoon read to Mary Rene from her Bible.
- Monday through Friday: After supper, Frank will lead us in evening prayer.
- Sunday: The Lord’s Day. Mass and family time. No household work.
Personal Life:
- Wake up at 6 a.m. and go to bed at 10:30 p.m. every day.
- Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday: Go for a morning run (it makes me sane!!!)
- Tuesdays, Fridays: Sew or Read during part of one of Mary Rene’s naps
- Thursday nights: Sew after Mary Rene goes to bed
- Only check personal email twice a day.
- Once a month, go out to lunch with a friend without Mary Rene or Frank
Frank:
- Monday nights: Stay-in date night after Mary Rene goes to bed
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays: after Mary Rene goes to bed be available to hang out with Frank.
- Saturdays: family time
Mary Rene:
- Be more involved during playtime and don’t look at the dust in the corner
- Read to her from her Bible everyday
Provider:
- The mess can wait.
I put a schedule together for each day of the week starting at 6 a.m. and going to 10:30 p.m. I know it will be hard to stick to a schedule but I am going to try my hardest. Please pray that I do my best so I can get more order in my life!
