Thanks so much for taking the time to do these posts. It seems to me like something which is well worth taking the time to consider, but I certainly haven't done the reading for myself. I hope that you do not consider letting your blog go, because I would like for these to be here to re-read whenever this becomes a relevant issue for us.

I think you can drive yourself crazy thinking too much about this stuff. There are some obvious ones to delay (like hep b, a, chicken pox, and polio), but with the others, I found it's been best to just restrict it to 2 shots per visit. And we did have to do some extra visits in her first year to get some of the stuff in.

A few things to share....

1. Neither of my kids received the rotovirus shot. With B it was just recalled and my ped didn't offer it. With A it was available, but I refused it. Neither child has ever been ill with rotavirus. B was in daycare and formula fed, A was breastfed and kept at home. I think this is a vaccination that everyone must view on their own.

2. Merck is supposed to bring back the seperate MMR vaccinations in 2011, last I heard. If you call the 1-800 number you should be able to speak to a rep that can provide more accurate info.

3. I believe you can just check Mary's titers before she starts school (in regards to the MMR immunity). B will start kndg in July and will receive his first MMR vaccination in March. Our ped will sign a paper saying his titers will be rechecked at a later date which will suffice for the state/school regulations. Check with your new ped about whether or not she needs the booster for sure. I would much rather do a titer test then inject the booster, especially if it is not needed.

4. I agree that the chicken pox vaccination is absurd. True, there are some people that are immunocompromised and need these vaccinations. However I think this one is silly. Let's help the economy?? Oh my...

About the rotovirus shot...my pediatrician says that she has seen a significant decrease in the number of babies needing to be hospitalized since this vaccine was developed. Actually Natalie got the vaccine, but still got rotovirus last year...the vaccine helps the virus to not be as bad...and believe me...you don't want your child to get this!!
